Tribe: A group of people with similar values and interests.
We are social creatures. We need companionship. A place to belong, to be heard and to be understood. Maybe even make a difference.
It’s nice to have a thousand friends/followers on your social media accounts. Maybe more if you’re famous. But to most, you’re just noise. Something to fill the void in between post. The problem is, they’re just a number. You’re just a number. A face you met once a long time ago. Maybe never. You probably only have less than ten really good friends you can gel with.
Sometimes we let our sense of being “different” or “special” get in the way of belonging. We need to surround ourselves with like-minded people. The only way to do this is to join others. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, and you’ll have to leave, it’s impossible to jive with everyone you meet, and that is ok. But you need to get back out there. To find people you can connect with, share your trials and tribulations with, without being judged.
Call in your tribe. Don’t just sit around and wait for your people to find you. Put it out there on social media. Talk, Share, Write about your tribe, so people can tell if they long to be part of it.
Extensive scientific data has shown that loneliness is a greater risk to your health than smoking or lack of exercise, and finding your tribe is better than any vitamin, diet, or exercise regimen. Studies have shown that those with more social connections were even found to have lower rates of cancer.
A Harvard study examining the lives of about 3,000 people found that those who meet to engage in social activities outlive their reclusive peers by an average of two-and-a-half years. Finding your tribe is not only fun. It can also save your life.
“Be around the light bringers, the magic makers, the world shifters, the game shakers. They challenge you, break you open, uplift + expand you. They don’t let you play small with your life. These heartbeats are your people. These people are your tribe.”
(By the way, if you like this post, you may consider being a part of the tribe that is being built here. Bring in a few of your friends, maybe, just maybe we’ll build something amazing together.)
